The basic elements of a Dutch coin is the portrait of the country’s royal figurehead – at the time of this design it was Queen Beatrix – and its currency value. For this commission both components have been brought together in the object designed as the centerpiece of the coin:
the heads side shows a bust of The Queen set in a windowsill (within a private domain), and the backside of the coin reveals the same object only shown from different side and situated in different scale; a monument placed on a typical city square (public domain).
